AKU, IED-Centre of English Language offers courses on English Language Proficiency, Business English and Learn to Write a Research Paper

Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU‑IED) offers various professional development programmes for teachers, teacher educators, educational managers and others in the field of education.
 
The Centre of English Language at AKU-IED offer courses for enhancing English language skills of teachers, professionals, students, employees and others who may wish to improve their skills.
 
Following are the upcoming courses offered by the Centre of English Language:

 1.      General English Language Proficiency
The course has been designed to help adult learners of English to use the language in a variety of practical ways in real life contexts.  Keeping the academic, social and professional needs in focus, the course has been developed to meet learners’ needs by incorporating authentic and contextualized ELT materials and the latest teaching methodology. Application deadline:  March 7, 2013
 
2.      Business English
Business English course has been designed for professionals and executives at the junior and middle management levels.  It offers opportunities to participants to discuss, reflect on, and practice current language in use for communicating effectively in their respective business environment.  Classes will be held face-to-face and online support will be provided. Application deadline:  March 7, 2013

3.      Learn to Write a Research Paper
Participants will be introduced to the rhetoric and textual development of research writing so as to produce a succinct abstract, pertinent introduction, critical analysis and synthesis of relevant literature, application of adequate methodology and thematic findings and results. Participants will also learn the APA formatting style and structure. Application deadline: March 7, 2013

PAIE workshop on "Hearing Loss" on February 23, 2013

Dear Members,

PAIE, in collaboration with Danishkadah is organizing a general awareness raising workshop. The aim of this workshop is to introduce modern concept of “Disability” with focus on people with hearing loss (deaf, hard of hearing and deafened), their needs in access to information and communication and available assistive technologies.

Who Should Attend?
Mainstream and special educators, parents, and people with hearing loss, or anyone interested in disability movement particularly in people with hearing loss can also gain good knowledge.

Arif Karedia works as a Director Academics at Youth Enrichment Network Pvt. Ltd. and a Principal at YEN Academy. He has done MBA from Cyprus International University and also got certification in Early Childhood Development from Aga Khan University. He has conducted a number of sessions on teachers’ development on topics like Classroom Management, Language Development, Mathematical Development, Developing Environmental Knowledge, Active Learning etc. for various organizations which include Bahira University, Shia Imami Ismaili Tariqa and Religious Education Board, Early Years Learning Association and Pakistan Children Television. He is also an acting Chairperson of School Headteachers Association for Development of Education (SHADE) and an executive committee member of Early Years Learning Association (EYLA). Currently, he is pursuing his M. Phil in education from Iqra University.

EYLA Session- "The role of language in the Early Years" on February 16, 2013

About Facilitator
Ms. Saboohi Irtiza’s diverse experience of 23 years includes working in various capacities as a primary and secondary teacher, teacher trainer and curriculum developer of Early Years Education. She has taught several courses of Professional Certificate in Education of Bradford University, UK. She recently completed a certificate course on Primary and Early Years Education from Waikato University, NewZealand. She has worked with teachers and headteachers from private and public sectors and inspired many teachers towards attaining professional excellence in teaching, curriculum development and educational administration.
