Tahira Nasir has been associated with teaching profession for the last 10 years as an Urdu language teacher. She possesses Master degrees in Urdu Literature from Karachi University and in Education from Hamdard University.  She has facilitated and conducted various educational courses especially on Urdu Language Pedagogy which includes, lesson planning, story writing, developing phonetic and reading skills. Presently she is working as a coordinator in Generation’s School.

PAIE & HEALTH - “Character Development and Behavior Management for Children with Special Needs” on May 5-6, 2012

On behalf of PAIE and HEALTH Executive Committees, we would like to invite you for a 1½ day workshop on “Character Development and Behavior Management for Children with Special Needs” in collaboration with NOWPDP on May 5-6, 2012.

About the workshop  
NOWPDP, in collaboration with Family Educational Services Foundation (FESF), has designed this workshop. The workshop discusses strategies for behavior modification and tools, like charts, IBPs, for teachers to use in their classrooms. This workshop will provide the teachers with enriched knowledge and skill to address the behavior needs of children with disabilities. Sample materials and Training manual will also be provided to all the participants by NOWPDP.

ASSET - "The Earth in space: Earth's Imaginary Divisions" on Saturday, April 21, 2012

Dear Members,

It is a pleasure to inform you that ASSET is organizing a session in the month of April 2012 on The Earth in space: Earth's Imaginary Divisions. 

The workshop has been designed for Geography, Social Studies and Pakistan Studies teachers as well as for everyone who wants to know more about the world we live in. The actual aim is to learn about our home planet and its place in the Universe, as well as the ways of studying about the Earth through imaginary lines. By using visual aids participants will discover why and how winter and summer solstice as well as spring and autumn equinox occur and what Quran says about this. Participants will have a short journey to Arctic and Antarctic zones to find out the extraordinary flora and fauna of the Polar Regions.

Brief Intro of Facilitator

Khalid Masood Gul is a Mechanical Engineer from the Metallurgical University in Ukraine. He worked at Pakistan Steel for more than 25 years. Presently he is associated with BAHRIA Foundation College as a teacher of Pakistan Studies “O” level, as his passion was always in teaching and learning. His major interest is in Islam and Science on which he has done lots of research and studies and conducted several workshops.

Role of school/School teachers in in Promoting Adolescent Health

Rationale
Schools performance is based on students and students’ performance is based on delivery of quality education. However this is heavily based on preparation of a teacher as “guide on the side”; which covers both the secular and extracurricular education, especially focusing on the life skills for young children
All this is possible if a teacher has the understanding of child’s health and social issues with special emphasis on adolescent health in specific.

Objectives
By the end of the session participants will be able to:
Discuss adolescent health;
List issues of adolescent/school children
Identify the stakeholders in addressing the issues amongst the school children
Identify strategies to overcome the issues
Prepare an action plan on adolescent health to be implement at their respective schools

She also got Bachelor’s degree and Diploma in Nursing from Aga Khan University, School of Nursing and Midwifery (AKUSONAM) and Diploma in Midwifery from Holy Family Hospital, Karachi. She has been associated with Aga Khan University since 1988. She worked as a Senior Community Health Nurse, as a Lecturer at Aga Khan University-East Africa and currently, as a Senior Instructor and chair of Community Heath Nursing Interest Group at AKUSONAM.
