EYLA

On behalf of EYLA Executive Committee, we would like to invite you for the EYLA workshop to be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Details of the session are as follows:

Title : “Behaviour Modification of Children”

Registration will start from Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Since seating at the workshop is limited, aspiring participants must confirm their participation at registration@ptan.org or Phone # 36826991-4/36347611-4 Ext. 3203/3205. Available seating will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and the registration will be closed once the workshop has been fully subscribed.

(Please note that the request for confirmation, for attending the workshop, sent through e-mails or phone calls received before January 11, 2011 will not be accepted. Members sending their confirmations through e-mails should send their e-mails from 8:30 a.m. (PST) on January 11, 2011. Any e-mail received on January 11, 2011 before 8:30 a.m. (PST) will not be accepted).

The Fifth ASSET Olympiad

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It gives me a great pleasure to inform you that our team is organizing The Fifth ASSET Olympiad on Saturday 8th January 2011 at AKU-IED. The topic of this Olympiad is “Environment and Our Social Responsibility”.

This Olympiad has been designed with the aim to
a. Understand the responsibility of students and teacher with regard to a global environmental crisis known as climatic change or global warming.
b. Recognize our role in the current situation.

Through this platform, the participants (students and teachers) would be given an opportunity to learn and express what they feel about it and what their views are about these topics.

This event has been designed to ensure a stimulating experience for all the participants. The students will prepare posters and participate in a debate focusing on the given motion statement, according to the article provided to them while the teachers will attend an informative session on the topic.

Participating students will be briefed and facilitated in the preparation of posters focusing on the theme. Participants will also be guided to prepare and compete in a debate related to the theme. The details of the programme are as follows:

09:00 - 09:15 Welcome and Introduction of the key note speaker
09:15 - 10:15 Key note Speech by Dr. Azra Saeed; Executive Director ROOTS
10:15 -10:30 Briefing on how to prepare and display the poster
10:30 - 11:30 Session on Environment for teachers by Dr. Azra Saeed
Designing posters on the theme by students
11:30 - 12:00 Tea Break
Preparing debate on the theme by students
12:00 - 13:00 Debate Competition
13:00 – 13:20 Video clippings on Environmental issues
13:20 – 13:45 Plague and certificate distribution

Who should/can participate?

• The contest is open to all schools of Pakistan.
• Each school will be required to select and send three students from Classes IX & X.
• Each group of students must be accompanied by one teacher from the school.

What preparations should the participants undertake?

• The students selected must primarily possess good comprehension, presentation and debating skills.
• All necessary stationary and work materials will be provided by ASSET-PTAN Team for the development of the posters.
• A panel of judges will evaluate the group outputs and decide the winners.
• The decision of the panel will be final and undisputed.

Event Date and Venue

The Fifth ASSET Olympiad will be held at The Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) on Saturday January 8, 2011 starting at 9:00 am sharp.

• Participants will be required to arrive latest by 8:30 am.
• Attendance and related formalities will be completed by 8:55 am to ensure that the event starts on time at 9:00 am.
• The event will end at about 14:00 Hours.

Last date of registration

• Schools are requested to send in the duly completed registration form (attached) latest by January 4, 2011.
• The registration form must be completed in all respects and the names of the students nominated by the schools must be clearly spelled and presented in CAPITAL letters.
• The forms must be submitted to at PTAN Office, IED.

Registration fee

A token of Rs.1000/- is payable as registration fee and must be attached to the registration form either in cash or in the form of a pay order in the name of AKU-IED.

“Model and Modelling: Journey from Abstract to Concrete”

Objectives: By the end of the session participants will be able to:
o Define model and modeling
o Differentiate between model and modeling
o Explain and differentiate between the different types of models
o Explain the importance of model as teaching and learning tool
o Develop model to experience the modeling process
