ASSET session titled "Innovative Approaches for Teaching Social Studies: Using DARTs and Graphic Organizers" on Saturday, January 30, 2016

Dear Member,

Effective Social Studies teaching-learning involves a wide range of communication skills (visual, verbal, symbolic, graphical) which cater to different learning styles of learners. Graphic Organizers and DARTs provide a variety of teaching-learning strategies that could help making Social Studies lessons more productive, engaging and interesting for students. This month ASSET is organizing a session on Innovative Approaches for Teaching Social Studies: Using DARTs and Graphic Organizers.

Session’s objectives:
By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  Ø  Develop understanding of DARTs and Graphic Organizers.
  Ø  Use Graphic Organizers for making effective use of Social Studies text books and supplementary materials.
  Ø  Use DARTs (reconstruction and analysis) activities to develop their students’ understanding of the social studies materials.
  Ø  Enhance their students' reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Facilitator's profile
Ms Kaneez Zainab is currently working as an Academic Coordinator at Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi. She has done masters in Science (Microbiology) from Karachi University. She has done 2 Advanced Diploma, one in Teaching Science and the other in Leadership and Management from Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development. She has been associated with the field of education for past 15 years. She has been carrying out a variety of professional development activities which include conducting workshops, short courses during summer break, providing on-going classroom-based support to teachers, reviewing test papers, helping teachers preparing their lesson plans, developing teaching-learning materials, and importantly doing classroom teaching as well.

NOTE: Please note that participants, who get confirmation to attend, must bring the text book of the class/es he/she teaches.
