APEE workshop titled "Orientation to Ethics and Its application in Education" on March 15, 2014
Association
for Promoting Ethics in Education (APEE)
Organizing a workshop on
Orientation to Ethics and Its application in Education
Ethics is a normative science which
focuses on the study of human conduct. The conduct does not include those
unwilled activities like breathing, circulation of blood or sleepy conditions
etc. Conduct may include inward activities like motives or desires as well as
outward activities like speech and movements of doer’s limbs and so these will
fall within the sphere of ethics. There is not a single movement of a day when
an individual is not engaged in doing or thinking something. It is an endless
process which goes on all through one’s life.
The question arises when one is
confronted with the veracity of activity: right or wrong. This relates to
morality and schools have a fundamental role to guide students in determination
of the veracity of their actions. The ultimate success is predicted on the
soundness of their social conduct with fellow beings. The schools are to
promote pro-social thoughts, values and behaviors among students to act as good
citizen. The aim should be finding some way to help student develop good habits
and virtues. Holy Quran is the best source which helps schools develop a sense
of responsibility in students and motivate them seek goodness in life.
