Celebrating World Teachers’ Day
World Teachers’ Day
Date: November 27, 2010
Date: November 27, 2010
Dear Members,
World Teacher’s Day is celebrated in many countries of the world on October 5, every year. The day came to be celebrated for the first time in 1994 by UNESCO. The purpose for celebrating this day is to honour and recognize the contributions, devotion and dedication of teachers towards education in general and development of children in particular. “Teachers are essential and indispensible for the effective working of any society and for the building of progressive nations.” UNESCO.
All of us serving at PTAN strongly believe that teachers are central to the development of our future generations and that Teachers matter! To pay tribute to the teacher’s community at large and to our member teachers in particular, we are celebrating the World Teacher’s Day on November 27, 2010. Our purpose in celebrating this day is to provide an opportunity to our teachers to come together on a common platform and share their valuable professional expertise with each other.
To make this event more meaningful and memorable we invite nominations of teachers/Head teachers who may have taken leadership in developing innovative educational material that might have given them a special recognition. The material may include whole school improvement/development plans, publications (books, articles etc.), posters, a unit/lesson plan, curriculum guidelines, and teaching – learning strategies or methods, small projects and or self learning materials. A brief abstract along with a self explanatory introduction to the material, a clear and succinct description of the implementation process along with evidence of the effectiveness and efficacy of the material should be attached. This introductory write – up should not exceed 500 words. For ethical purposes we advise that the original source of all material being presented should be clearly specified. In addition to it a brief bio data not exceeding 50 words should also be included. The deadline for sending all the material is October 22, 2010.
The material/project will be judged against a criterion (stated below) for the final selection. The top ten projects from each association will be selected for display and presentation and will also receive an award. Once the nominations have been received and finalized, the PTAN Office will inform the selected nominees about the details of the presentation process.
Criterion for selection of material:
The material should be innovative, contextually appropriate and relevant and very importantly based on most recent and updated theoretical and practical understanding. It should have been tried and tested in real school / classroom context to prove its efficacy and academic rigour especially in terms of promoting and challenging students’ thinking and understanding. Above all it should be original, adaptable, implementable and manageable.
Kindly fill in the attached form and send it along with the material to the following address:
