Title:   Preparation of intellectual disabled Adults for future Employment in different vocational trades

Workshop Objective:
Vocational Training is playing an important role in a life of person with disability. Rehabilitation programs are basically designed according to the need of intellectual disabled person or provide a shelter environment in those working areas.

About the Facilitators:
Ms Erum Maqsood has done her masters in special education from University of Karachi in 2008. Working as a special educator from 2008 and dealing intellectual disabled adults and plan there vocational program for future employment.

Ms Maria Amir has done her masters in speech language pathology and audiology. She is a director of Autism care foundation and rehabilitation. She has done ABA therapy from USA.

EYLA is Celebrating Childrens Day on November 7, 2015

Celebrating Children’s Day with Public and Private Schools Children

Dear Sir/Madam

As we know November, 20th is the Universal Children’s Day. This day provides us opportunities to develop awareness among the people about the wellbeing of the children of the world and to celebrate the day of the Declaration of the convention on the Rights of Child by the UN General Assembly 19 years ago.

EYLA is also celebrating Children’s Day on November 07, 2015 to recognize the rights of the child along with their talents, skills and achievements that they all have. We are intending to invite your school to participate in this upcoming programme that will begin from 09:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The event will be organized by EYLA’s Executive Committee. The key features of the programme are:

  • Children’s work display  and
  • Children’s presentations  (working together)

For the children’s work display, you are required to bring posters, art work, poems/stories or any other work done by children. Your school will be provided a soft board of the size and we would like you to display your school children’s work on Friday, November 6, 2015, a day prior to the event at SMS Auditorium, Karimabad, Karachi. Kindly bring only two children as your school’s representative along with a teacher for display on the occasion. (Note: Adults’ work will not be entertained.)

For Children’s presentations, please do let us know in advance about the item (song/skit/tableau) that will be presented by your school’s child/ren. There will be 10 minutes slot allocated to each school. You are requested to send maximum 6 – 8 children with 2 teachers on the day of the programme.

For both (the display and children’s presentation), your earliest registration will help us to include your school’s participation in the programme. A Single Picture is Worth a Thousand Words (Confucius)

Dear Member,
This month ASSET is organizing a workshop on drawing as a means of expression. Art forms are powerful visual means of dealing with political, economic and social issues. Children learning and understanding can be enhanced by integrating them in Social Studies class.

Session’s objectives:
The workshop objectives are to enhance participant’s creativity, exploring the artist inside them and help them to bring out their ideas on different issues and express them through drawing. Moreover, participants will be able to take back the concept of Drawing Ideas to their classrooms.

We expect participants will bring along with them drawing material i.e. pastel colours, oil colours, colour pencils, crayons, brushes etc, and most importantly their ideas about local and global issues.

Facilitator's profile
Rafique Ahmad, who is known by the pen name “Feica” is regarded as a legend among Pakistani cartoonists. He studied in NCA, National College of Arts. He began his career in the late seventies during the rule of General Zia-ul-Haq when censorship was rife. He was associated with different leading Newspapers of Pakistan and has been part of Dawn since 1992. His cartoons embody a revolutionary impulse and according to him his cartoons and caricatures are for a ‘revolutionary cause’, and not for commercial business.

Facilitator Profile:
Focus Humanitarian Assistance (FOCUS) is an international group of agencies established in Europe, North America, South and Central Asia to complement the provision of emergency relief, principally in the developing world. It helps people in need reduce their dependence on humanitarian aid and facilitates their transition to sustainable self-reliant, long-term development. HEALTH session titled "Providing Basic First Aid at School" on Saturday, October 03, 2015

Topic:                         Providing Basic First Aid at School

Rationale
A basic and understanding of first aid can be instrumental for individuals to be able to provide emergency care in the event of an accident, possibly saving lives and minimizing injury. Since injury is the fifth leading cause of death and children at the age of primary school are liable for accidents and lack of knowledge and good judgment of their teachers may lead to dangerous consequences when emergencies occur. Training teachers how to deal with accidents is of obvious importance.

Objectives:     By the end of this workshop the participants will be able to discuss:

·         Discuss First Aid and its importance.
·         Discuss list of items required in first aid box.
·         Highlight the medical emergency responses and role of educators/health members of school
·         Watch few first aid techniques for fracture, burn, lifting from fall etc.

Facilitator Profile:
Ambreen Momin is working as a clinical preceptor in AKUSONAM since last one year. Besides this she worked as a registered nurse in oncology and medicine unit (AKUH). She did her RN program in 2009 and post RN BScN program from AKUSONAM and nurse midwifery from Liaquat national hospital.

Razia Bano Momin is clinical preceptor in AKUSONAM since April 2015. She did her registered nursing in 2004 and Post RN-BScN in 2010 from AKU-SONAM. She worked as RN, Critical care Nurse and team leader position in Emergency Room, Dialysis unit and worked as Clinical Nurse Instructor in Surgical Day Care ward and OR. Besides that she is also taking Basic Life Support Course as BLS instructor at AKU Nursing Education Services. Furthermore, She took session on First Aid at varies capacity on voluntary bases.
