The aim of this workshop is to introduce modern concept of “disability” with focus on people with special needs at all ages to deal in group, their needs in access to information and communication by vocal talent.

Mainstream and special educators, parents, and people concern with special need community or organization. Anyone who has any interest in disability movement like professionals, staff, therapist etc.

About the workshop

The workshop is designed to help the target audience understand children with high levels of aggression and how to deal with these youngsters in an effective manner. This workshop will cover the various theories that are associated with children and aggression as well as effective strategies to understand and work with children to help them overcome their aggression. Focus will be given to the developmental aspects of the children as well as therapeutic strategies, through the use of metaphors, stories, and case illustrations. Participants will also be asked to partake in activities that would be used with children firsthand to help them experience what the child experiences in order to empathize with these children.

Workshop Objective

 1.      To educate the target audience about aggression in children from the perspective of:
a)      Manifestation of aggression in children
b)     Attachment styles of parents and children
c)      Philosophy and psychology of aggressive children
2.       To provide the target audience with resources to help them effectively work with aggressive children
3.       To provide the audience with effective interventions to employ with aggressive children

Ms. Laila Lodhia has got 3 years of experience in psychological assessment, psychodiagnosis, and psychotherapy and worked with children and adults in a clinical setting with various mental disorders and emotional problems. Currently, she is working at Therapy Works (Pvt) Ltd as a Clinical Psychologist. She is also pursuing her M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and also engaged in a research for her M.Phil. titled “Resilience and Social Support as Determinants of Wellbeing in Adolescents”.

ASSET Workshop titled "Socio-Political Aspects of Pakistani Agriculture"on Saturday, April 27, 2013

Dear Member,

It is a pleasure to inform you that this month ASSET is organizing a workshop on Socio-Political Aspects of Pakistani Agriculture. Below are the details of the workshop.

 Pakistan is an agriculture-based economy. Its major economic earnings are from agricultural production. Nearly 50% of Pakistani labor is in the agriculture sector; nearly 70% of the country’s population is rural.

Given the above, any development approach in the country has to take agricultural economy into consideration.  Recently, there has been an intense focus on agricultural development. On one hand there is a school of thought which is promoting chemical intensive industrial agricultural mode of production. On the other hand, wide spread climate change and ensuing ‘natural’ disasters have increased focus on the concept of food sovereignty which promotes the concept of sustainable agriculture.
 

The context of food sovereignty was introduced in the 1990s as a response to neoliberal agricultural policies. These policies have also been introduced in Pakistan. The use of chemical inputs and hybrid seeds in Pakistan has intensified over the years which have had a vast impact on one hand on agricultural production including livelihood of small and landless farmers and food production. On the other hand, impacts on agricultural production have a severe impact on consumption patterns, severely impacting social conditions both in the rural and urban communities.

 A coherent analysis of agricultural policies in conjunction with climate change is needed to understand the current socio-economic and political context of Pakistan.

This 4 hour workshop will provide an overview of the:

·         Socio-economic political base of Pakistan
·         Particular agricultural national and international policies which have determined agricultural development and their impacts on Pakistani society

SHADE workshop titled "The Application of Multiple Intelligences for Education Systems" on April 20, 2013

The Application of Multiple Intelligences for Education Systems

Howard Gardner coined the term Multiple Intelligences (MI) in 1983 in which he presented seven different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability in learners. Recently, his research has enlightened educators with nine different Multiple Intelligences. As school leaders, it is essential for us to understand the unique learning patterns of our students, and MI helps us to understand students’ strengths. Although we have an understanding of the Multiple Intelligences Framework yet our educational institutions are unable to infuse this into our lesson planning. Therefore, this month’s SHADE session will be on the “Application of Multiple Intelligences for Education Systems”.  The session will help participants to;

·         Explore Multiple Intelligences within each individual,

·         Stimulate educators to discover more methods of teaching and learning,
·         Prepare Learning Objectives in accordance to the Multiple Intelligences framework.

Facilitator’s Profile:

Mr. Nadeem ur Rehman Khan is an emerging personality in education. His professional qualifications include an MBA (Educational Management) from the Institute of Business Education, Bachelors of Education from Notre Dame Institute of Education (NDIE) and Bachelors of Commerce from the Institute of Business Education. He has acquired professional teaching and training certifications from the Australian Catholic University, Australia and the Teachers Development Centre (TDC). Formerly, he taught Business Studies Curriculum at Beaconhouse School Systems and also conducted workshops on Multiple Intelligences, Usage of Multimedia in Education, Resume Writing and Interviews for Educators in collaboration with TDC and NDIE. He has also worked with the British Council to market launching of their Teaching English website campaign. He has written number of articles in the daily DAWN and Express Tribune. Currently, he is associated with Aga Khan Higher Secondary School (AKHSS) as their Academic Coordinator.
