ASSET Workshop titled "The “HOWS” of Co-operative Learning"on Saturday, October 20, 2012

Dear Members,

It is a pleasure to inform you that, this month ASSET is organizing a workshop on Co-operative Learning. To make learning better and more productive for both student as well as teacher, it is very important to keep abreast with innovation in all areas of teaching and learning. The concept of cooperative learning and its different methods provide greater opportunity of making teaching and learning effective and productive.

The Workshop will address the following areas:
• The difference between co-operative learning and traditional group work.
• Benefits of cooperative learning
• Strategies of successful cooperative learning
• Closer glimpse at positive interdependence
The workshop will furnish teachers with various ideas for activities to take back and carry out in their classrooms.

Facilitator’s Profile:
Ms. Arwa Khuzaima has taken her basic education from East Africa. She has specialized at early childhood education from The Kindergarten Headmistress Association in England. She also did her MTC from Teachers Development Centre. She has won several poetry competitions at national levels. She has over 23 years of experience in teaching classes both here and abroad and at MSB Educational Institute. She has trained over 3,000 teachers within Pakistan and abroad as well.

AKUIED-CEL offer courses on English Language Skills

Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU‑IED) offers various professional development programmes for teachers, teacher educators, educational managers and others in the field of education.  

The Centre of English Language at AKU-IED offer courses for enhancing English language skills of teachers, business professionals, students, employees and others who may wish to improve their skills.

Following are the upcoming courses offered by the Centre of English Language:

1.      Learn to write Research Paper (October 23, - November 8, 2012)
Participants will be introduced to the rhetoric and textual development of research writing so as to produce a succinct abstract, pertinent introduction, critical analysis and synthesis of relevant literature, application of adequate methodology and thematic findings and results. Participants will also learn the APA formatting style and structure.

2.      General; English Language Proficiency (November 3,  - December 15, 2012)
The course has been designed to help adult learners of English to use the language in a variety of practical ways in real life contexts. Keeping the academic, social and professional needs in focus, the course has been developed to meet learners’ needs by incorporating authentic and contextualised ELT materials and the latest teaching methodology.

3.      Improve your English Pronunciation (November 8, - November 16, 2012)
This is a specially designed pronunciation proficiency course that aims to improve pronunciation patterns of English language learners.

Application deadline: November 06, 2012 

4.      Business English (November17 – December 22, 2012)
Business English course has been designed for professionals and executives at the junior and middle management levels. It offers opportunities to participants to discuss reflect on and practice current language in use for communicating effectively in their respective business environment. Classes will be held face to face and online support will be provided.

EYLA workshop on “Learning disabilities” on Saturday, October 13, 2012

Dear EYLA Member,

On behalf of EYLA Executive Committee, we would like to invite you for the EYLA workshop to be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012.

 Details of the session are as follows:

Title:                                           “Learning disabilities”

 Highlights of the Sessions:

  1. Discussing an overview of normal development process.
  2. Explaining different learning disorders such as: Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyspraxia (Sensory Integration Disorder), Dysphasia/Aphasia and ADHD.
  3. Understanding signs and symptoms of the above disorders in classroom and at home. 
  4. Sharing some tips of managing these disorders and parents counseling.
